Free Market Research that Could Change How the Industry Does Business
by Cindy Shih
NAMTA, the International Art Materials Trade Association, is rolling out a brand-new consumer research program called Kaleidoscope, set to launch this fall. The best part? It’s completely free for qualifying NAMTA members.
If you’ve ever wished you had real, industry-specific data behind your business decisions instead of just gut instinct, this is the kind of initiative worth paying attention to.
Kaleidoscope isn’t a random idea that popped up overnight. It’s the result of a strategic planning session the NAMTA Board of Directors held last fall, where expanding industry research became a top priority for the association going forward. The board saw a clear need; members deserve access to the kind of market intelligence that’s usually reserved for companies with big research budgets.
To bring this vision to life, NAMTA teamed up with Spark Market Research, an agency known for turning messy, complicated data into clear, usable strategy. Spark will lead the charge on both member and consumer insights, with the goal of giving NAMTA and its members the empirical evidence they need to make smarter, more confident business decisions in a market that’s always shifting.
The first phase of research kicks off in Fall 2026, and it’s all about building a solid baseline: understanding the key questions, challenges and opportunities facing the creative materials industry right now. Once the data comes in, Spark Market Research will translate it into a forward-looking strategic direction. Think reports that explain what’s changing in the consumer landscape, why it matters to your business and what you can actually do about it. No fluff, no jargon, just practical takeaways you can put to work.
Why this matters
High level market research usually comes with a high price tag, which means it’s often out of reach for smaller retailers and independent shops. Kaleidoscope changes that. By making this research free for members, NAMTA is leveling the playing field so that independent retailers, manufacturers and distributors all get the same access to world class insights, regardless of size or budget.
Not a member yet? Here’s why now is a great time to join
Kaleidoscope is exactly the kind of benefit that makes NAMTA membership worth it. This is data built specifically for the art materials world, not a generic retail report that only sort of applies to your business. Joining NAMTA means you’ll be part of the first wave to see these insights when they roll out this fall, giving you a head start on understanding where the market is headed before your competitors do.
More details on Kaleidoscope will be shared with members as the launch gets closer. If you’re already a member, keep an eye out. If you’re not, there’s no better time to change that.
